Description

Flexlock Sand is a unique mixture of polymer binders and calibrated sand available in Sandy Beige, Graphite Grey and Ivory. The installation of Flex Lock Sand is almost identical to using regular paver joint sand, except for the application of water. Once Flex Lock Sand sets, it becomes very firm and locks between the paver joints. This firm bond maintains pavers securely in place, being equally effective on both horizontal and sloped surface.

FOR USE ON and REQUIRED SUB-SURFACE PREPARATION

Flexlock Sand is recommended for a variety of uses, including pool sides, patios, foot paths, driveways, parking spaces, pavements, etc. The concrete pavers have to be installed on a drainage base system composed of 2 layers. The upper layer can have a maximum of 1″ (2.5 cm) of bedding sand. The lower layer must have a minimum of 5″ (12.5 cm) of crushed stone compacted at 95% Proctor density. (See diagram below).

Please note that this limited warranty applies only when the Flexlock Sand, Flexlock Ultra and the Flexlock Dust are used for residential purposes exclusively (home owners or contractors using the product for single or multi-unit dwellings that are exclusively for residential use).
Flexlock cannot guarantee results as it has no control over surface and sub-surface preparation and product application.
However, for a period of 10 years from purchase, Flexlock agrees that, if the product is proven to be defective, and on the condition that is was installed pursuant to the method of application of surface and sub-surface preparation described in the *installation guide, then Flexlock agrees to refund the purchase price. Proof of purchase is required for any claim. The parties agree that the refund of the purchase price as stated is the only obligation of Flexlock. In all events, Flexlock Products shall not be liable for any other damages or costs ( including removal or reinstallation of sand or pavers) whatsoever, direct or consequential, to the extent permitted by law, Flexlock excludes any implied warranty of quality merchantability or fitness for purpose.

INSTRUCTIONS

Use a concrete sand as your bedding sand to do the final levelling. Install the concrete pavers on this concrete bedding sand.

After the area of pavers is placed, it should be compacted with a vibrating plate compactor, with a 5000 lbs (22kN) centrifugal compaction force. We recommend using a mat fastened to the vibrating plate to compact the pavers. At least two passes are required across the pavers to seat them in the bedding sand. Make sure that the pavers side and top surfaces are dry before applying the polymeric sand. Spread Flex Lock Sand over the pavers then use a hard-bristle brush to sweep the sand into the joints and filling them completely. Run a vibrating plate over the pavers in several directions to compact the sand inside the joints (this action is not appropriate for slabs). Repeat this step (spreading the sand, then compacting) at least two more times. If a vibrating plate compactor cannot be used, tamp the stones with a rubber mallet and make sure the Flex Lock Sand is densely packed in the joints.

Using a leaf blower, blow off all Flex Lock Sand residues lying on the paver surface. Depending on the physical layout present, it may be more appropriate to remove residue by using a vacuum unit.

First Phase: At a height of 4 feet (1.2 meter), use a water gun connected to a hose to direct a fine mist (setting of water gun: “mist” or equivalent) of water on a certain paver area for 10 to 15 seconds. Wait 3 to 4 minutes (not longer). Proceed to Second Phase.

Second Phase: From a height of 2 feet (0.6 meter), aim the water mist directly at the paver surface. Mist and rinse simultaneously so as to eliminate any Flex Lock Sand residue left on the pavers.

Third Phase: From a height of 2 feet (0.6 meter), aim the water mist again directly at the paver surface. Again, mist and rinse simultaneously so as to eliminate any Flex Lock Sand residue left on the pavers. The Flex Lock Sandresidue should go directly into the paver joints. However, stop misting (ALERT) when you see a minimal amount of water retention on the paver joints. Repeat the directions of step 4, 5 & 6 for all other areas that have not been misted with water.

Use a leaf blower to remove all the excess surface water that is lying on the pores and crevices of the pavers. This blowing action is necessary to help remove any remaining Flex Lock Sand residue that was left on the paver surface from the previous steps. Depending on the physical layout present, it may be more appropriate to remove remaining residue with a vacuum unit.

IMPORTANT

The water used in steps 4,5 & 6 will activate a bonding action as well as condense Flex Lock Sand grains in the joints. Too much water will undo the dense compaction obtained during step 2 and reduce the final performance of Flex Lock Sand. If steps 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are not done properly, a white haze may appear on the paver surface after the installation. This is due to excess Flex Lock Sand residue left on the paver surface. This haze will dissipate over time. It can also be removed by using a concrete efflorescence cleaner.

METHOD for applying Flex Lock Sand as part of an EXISTING PAVER JOB:

INSTRUCTIONS

Using a pressure washer, remove all the existing joint filling material from the top of the pavers to the bottom. Be careful to not disturb the bedding sand under the pavers. Follow step 2 to 7 of NEW PAVER JOB instructions.

Please Note

Do not apply on wet or damp surface since bonding action will cause Flex Lock Sand to stick on surface and prevent proper sliding in joint. Do not use if rain is expected within 1 hour. Avoid excessive watering or flooding of paved surfaces. When installing pavers around an underground pool, a 1/8 inch slope per linear foot from the pool is mandatory. All paver surfaces must have a drainage slope for the Flex Lock Sand to work at its optimum. For the pool coping units it is mandatory to use mortar in the joints. For the rest of the paver installation around the pool, you can use Flex Lock Sand.

-The Flex Lock Sand is ideal for narrow or large joints up to a maximum of 1″.
-Never use Flex Lock Sand when pavers are installed on a concrete slab. Over concrete slab the Flexlock Ultra is the recommended choice.
- Do not sweep over asphalt.

1Hr Setting Time at 32°F

Flex Lock Sand is the only polymeric sand manufacturer that provides a one-hour setting time warranty. Other polymeric sands require you to come back the following day to finish your work, and potential rainfall during the same day as the sand´s application would normally wash out the sand from the paver joints. But with Flex Lock, you will be able to collect your dues earlier for work done better and sooner.

Also, who else in the polymeric sand industry but Flex Lock enables you to perform this work at any temperature above 0°C (32°F), start your season earlier and extend it at least two months? With the competition, you have to wait for Mother Nature to give you a comfortable 15°C (59°F), you get two months less work time and a lower profit margin.
